Carpentry
Carpentry is a hands-on programme where students make a range of products to take home. There is a strong emphasis on learning practical skills and techniques and students become competent using hand tools, power tools and machinery. In these courses students learn safe working practices, construction techniques, material properties and different trade careers. Students are encouraged to self-manage, communicate effectively and use literacy and numeracy skills. The unit standards completed are sourced from BCITO (Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation). Carpentry can lead to careers and apprenticeships in trades such as building, construction, plumbing, drain-laying, roofing, gas-fitting, joinery, site manager and project management.
