Nutrition
In Food and Nutrition students learn about the impact of food choices on the wellbeing of individuals and society. They investigate different nutritional issues and develop action plans to address a problem to achieve more equitable outcomes. Practical lessons focus on developing a food product that meets the needs of the stakeholder, food hygiene and a range of cooking techniques.
Other cultures and cultural practices will be explored, allowing the student to understand New Zealand’s eating patterns and how they have changed. Students learn to analyse food packaging and nutritional information and their effect on the wellbeing of society. Food and Nutrition can lead to careers in food technology, consumer applied sciences, health sciences, nutrition, and sport & recreation.
