Hockey teams victorious in grade finals
It’s been an amazing week for Northcote College Hockey – with our 1st XI Girls and 2nd XI Boys both winning their grade finals! Congratulations to the teams, and enormous thanks to their managers and coaches.
1st XI Girls Hockey – Grade 3A winners
The girls also played their final game of the season before the tournament in their Grade 3A (1st vs 2nd) against Takapuna Grammar 2nd XI.
The girls had been at the top of the table for the second half of the season but coming into tonight’s final game, they had a stand-in goalie and a couple of injuries which meant they only had 1 substitute (I think). But with the sideline support from the De Groot family (Henry and Kees, Lotte’s brothers), along with Ethan King and other supporters, the girl raised their game and were victorious with a 6-2 win!!! Well done girls and good luck for the tournament in a week or so time at Harbour.
2nd XI Boys Hockey – Grade 3A winners
The boys played against Westlake Butler for Grade 3A finals (1st v 2nd). It was an exciting game, with the Westlake boys going up 1 nil at half time and then our boys came back to take a lead 2-1. Westlake Boys scored again to level the score to 2 -2 at full time. Normally that would be it for the lower grades, but we managed to squeeze in a penalty shootout. Each team chooses 3 players to take the shootout, 8 seconds to score against the goalie. The boys won 3-2 on the shoot out!!! They came 1st in the Grade! Well done boys – what a season!! Thanks to Coach Lachie and Manager Shar!
