Term 2 Week 8 Update

Term 2 Week 8 Update

Tēnā koe

As we near the end of Term 2, there are some reminders and key dates to share with you.

Matariki Event: Thursday 20 June 6-8pm Northcote College Hall
We are excited about our Matariki Evening tomorrow evening from 6-8pm and hope you will be able to join us in our celebrations. There will be performances by students from Birkenhead Primary, Willow Park Primary, Northcote Intermediate School, and Northcote College. There will also be a raranga (weaving) workshop and arts and crafts activities for tamariki. Please dress warmly and bring cash for kai (hangi, fried bread, soup). There will also be beautiful Māori art, Matariki earrings, and baked goods for sale. Mānawatia a Matariki | Celebrate Matariki.

Non-uniform Day: Thursday 27 June
Next Thursday we are having a Non-uniform Day, and we are fundraising for ‘Jammies for June.’ This charity is a partnership between Dame Valerie Adams and the Middlemore Foundation to provide children with pyjamas in winter. The aim is to help combat respiratory illnesses which often affect children living in cold and damp housing. Donations may be made online at MyKindo or by students giving cash to their period 1 teacher. Alternatively, you may donate a new pair of warm pyjamas - any size, from newborn to XXXXL.

Progress Reports
Progress reports will be emailed home on the last day of the term. These reports are a snapshot of subject results and attitudes. As always, academic achievement can be tracked at any time via the Parent Portal. Looking ahead, we have two evenings of Parent-Teacher-Student meetings on the 15th and 20th August, and we look forward to conversations about your child’s learning and strategies for success.

Homestay families needed
We are looking for caring homestay families to accommodate our international students. We have options available for one term, two terms or long term students. Northcote College hosts international students from Asia, South America and Europe. This is a great opportunity to experience another culture. We offer a homestay fee of $380 a week. For further information please contact our Homestay Coordinator Manny Mauricio at homestay@northcote.school.nz

Rotary Charity Book Fair 11 - 13 July
The annual Rotary Book Fair is once again taking place in the Northcote College Hall in the July holidays. Books being donated to the Book Fair may be dropped off at the Z Stations in our area. Please see the flyer on our school website for details: https://www.northcote.school.nz/announcements/rotary-charity-book-fair-11-13-july-2024

Thank you for your ongoing support of our school. We encourage you to stay in contact; if you have any queries, please contact your child’s Dean in the first instance.
