End of Term 3 Newsletter

End of Term 3 Newsletter

Tēnā koe

This newsletter at the end of Term 3 has messages for this week and key dates for next term.

We are proud of our students who sat the recent Literacy and Numeracy Common Assessment Activities and the senior school exams last week - ka rawe!

Te Wiki o te reo Māori | Māori Language Week - Non-uniform Day Paraire 27 Hepetema | Friday 27 September
We are celebrating Te Wiki o te Reo Māori this week because of the exams last week. There are activities including music, Kī o Rahi and market stalls for students to enjoy at lunchtimes during the week. There is also a Non-uniform Day on the last day of term, and students are encouraged to wear red, white and black - the colours of the Māori flag.

Course selection 2025
A reminder that students in Years 9-12 should have selected their courses for 2025 by Wednesday 25 September via the Parent Portal. The Course Directory 2025 will help you have good conversations with your child about their subjects and pathways - https://www.northcote.school.nz/teaching-learning/course-directory

Year 9 camp to Motutapu Island
This is a reminder for Year 9 parents to please complete the camp permission form in the email from Louise Inwards, our teacher in charge of camps.
We understand the financial burden camp can put on families and want to support and work with you to ensure the cost is not a barrier to students attending camp. We also recognise some families are in the fortunate position to be able to support another child. If you are able, you can donate through the Kindo Shop; look for Camp Pay it Forward - there are different amounts that you can pay. We greatly appreciate your generosity in making this experience possible for all.

Homestay families needed in 2025
We are looking for caring homestay families to accommodate international students in 2025. We host students from Asia, South America and Europe, and we have options available for one term, two terms or long term students. We offer a homestay fee of $400 per week. This is a great opportunity to experience another culture.
For further information please contact our Homestay Coordinator Manny Mauricio at homestay@northcote.school.nz

The Big Study Workshop at Northcote College: Saturday 12 October 12-3pm
Just three weeks out from the start of NCEA external exams, the goal of this workshop is to set students up for the start of their exam study, so they have the skills and tools they need to get the best results possible. The cost is $20 per student, and siblings are welcome to attend for no extra charge.
For details about the workshop and to register, visit https://www.cramlab.org/events/2024
If you have questions about the workshop, please contact Clare from Crab Lab at clare@cramlab.org

Thank you for your ongoing support of our school. We encourage you to stay in contact; if you have any queries, please contact your child’s Dean in the first instance.
