End of Term 1 update - 4 April 2025

Tēnā koe

With just one week to go to the end of term, there are a couple of notices and reminders for you. Please take note of the key dates for the start of Term 2 at the end of this email.

Polyfest

We are enormously proud of the fabulous performance of our combined Northcote College and Birkenhead College kapa haka rōpu at Polyfest yesterday. This was the result of months of enormous effort in practice, and we are grateful for all the awhi and support from kāiako and whānau to make this magic happen.

Ki a koutou ngā tauira o te kapa - e whakahīhī ana mātou ki a koutou. Kei tawhiti koutou! | To all the students in kapa haka, we are so proud of you all. You’re amazing!

Cross Country

Unfortunately, the poor weather today meant that our Cross Country could not go ahead. It will happen on the afternoon of Friday 11 April instead. You will have received an email from the Sports Department with details of the event. It is compulsory for junior students to participate, and they must be in their school PE uniform. When their race is finished, students may go home. Please make sure you are comfortable with the plan for your child that afternoon. Students can stay at school in the library, and school buses will run at normal times.

Whānau Information Evening on Literacy and Numeracy Co-requisite: Tuesday 8 April 6-7pm

Parents and caregivers of Year 10 students and senior students yet to gain the NCEA Literacy and Numeracy Co-requisite will have received an email from Kathryn Teeboon inviting you to an information evening. We look forward to seeing you in the Hall for the presentation about the co-requisite and how we will work together to support your child’s success.

Non-uniform Day: Thursday 10 April

Next Thursday we are having a Non-uniform Day to fundraise for Youthline. Youthline is a “with youth, for youth” organisation that supports young people throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. Youthline offers a free Helpline service (text, phone, webchat & email), free face-to-face counselling services, youth mentoring, and programmes in schools and communities.

ASB is currently matching donations, so we can double the impact we make to young people in need. Please give generously. Donations may be made online at MyKindo or by students giving cash to their period 1 teacher.

Road safety

The safety of our students is always a priority. In assemblies and at form time, messages and resources are shared with students to support road safety awareness. Please urge your child to cross Onewa Road responsibly at the lights, to always triple check for cars before stepping out to cross Kauri Glen Road, and to never jaywalk. Kauri Glen Road becomes very congested before and after school. If you are dropping off or collecting your child from school, we strongly encourage you to use Gladstone Road.

There are an increasing number of students coming to school on electric scooters. Please urge your child to always wear a helmet and to be careful and safe on roads and footpaths.

Progress Reports

Progress reports will be emailed home on the last day of the term. These reports are a snapshot of subject results and attitudes. As always, academic achievement can be tracked at any time via the Parent Portal.

ANZAC Day Commemorative Service: Friday 25 April

Northcote College prefects will represent our school at the ANZAC Day Commemorative Service at the Northcote War Memorial Hall at 10.45am following the parade. All are welcome.
