Start of Term 3

Start of Term 3

Tēnā koe

I hope your whānau enjoyed the July break from school and is ready for a productive Term 3. We are thrilled with the total raised last term on our non-uniform day for Jammies for June (over $1600), and a great pile of donated pyjamas was collected by the Birkenhead Fire Service to go straight to Middlemore Hospital. Thank you for your generosity.

We have some staff changes this term, so your child may have a new teacher. They will be in contact to introduce themselves and look forward to meeting you at the upcoming parent-teacher-student meetings.

School Production The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals: 31 July - 3 August
The Northcote College Performing Arts Faculty and an awesome group of dedicated students (actors, chorus members, backstage crew, costume designers, hair and makeup artists, and musicians) have been working hard since the beginning of the year and are excited about taking to the stage in Week 2.  The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals is a horror-comedy musical, and it follows Paul, an average guy who hates musical theatre, as the citizens of his town are gradually overcome by an alien hive mind that makes them sing and dance as if they are in a musical.
The show season runs from Wednesday 31st of July to Saturday 3rd August. The show starts at 7pm, and the run-time is approximately 2 hours with a short intermission. Tickets are $20 for students and $30 for adults; they are available via the school website: https://www.northcote.school.nz/news/book-now-night-musical-magic

Thames Sports Exchange: 30 July
We are hosting students and staff from Thames High School for our annual sports exchange. It is always a highlight of the calendar, and we look forward to exciting games of basketball, volleyball, football, rugby, hockey and netball. The game schedule will be posted on the school website, and we welcome support on the sidelines. As this is a school day, please sign in at the main office when you arrive. Good luck to all involved!

Parent-Teacher-Student Meetings: 15 and 20 August
Progress reports were sent home at the end of last term, and the Parent Portal always has up to date results and attendance data. We encourage you to come to the Parent-Teacher-Student Meetings on Thursday 15th and Tuesday 20th August 4-7pm. This is an opportunity to speak with subject teachers about your child's progress and ways we can support them to achieve their academic goals. Bookings will be on the School Interviews website, and the code will be sent to you when the site goes live.

Year 9 Hearing test: 22-23 August
Northcote College will be participating in the Hearing Screening Programme for Year 9 students on Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd August. This is part of the National Foundation for Deaf & Hard of Hearing (NFDHH) Listen Up Programme. Parents of Year 9 students will soon receive information about this from our nurses, and if you have any questions, you can contact them at nurse@northcote.school.nz

School donations
We are grateful for all donations which ensure that our students have the resources and support they need to achieve academically and also have opportunities to participate and thrive in sport, cultural groups, performing arts, leadership and service. Any payment or contribution through myKindo, in full or in an adjusted amount per term to suit your budget, helps us to continue to offer current opportunities and resources for your children.

The new Kindo App
The new and improved Kindo app is now available on the App Store and Google Play. This redesigned app has been developed with the feedback and needs of both parents and schools in mind, offering a more user-friendly and efficient way to manage school expenses.

A Guide to TikTok for New Zealand Parents and Guardians
TikTok has partnered with Netsafe - New Zealand’s leading online safety educators - to develop the Guardian’s Guide, which provides a simple overview of TikTok and the tools and controls built into the product to keep teens safe. There is also Netsafe’s Guardian's Guide to support online safety for teens. Please see the PDF on our school website: https://www.northcote.school.nz/announcements/netsafe-guide-tiktok-parents-and-guardians

Homestay families needed
We are looking for caring homestay families to accommodate our international students. We have options available for one term, two terms or long term students. Northcote College hosts international students from Asia, South America and Europe. This is a great opportunity to experience another culture. We offer a homestay fee of $380 a week. For further information please contact our Homestay Coordinator Manny Mauricio at homestay@northcote.school.nz
